Tear Off
- Removing the old roof is beneficial in more ways than one.
- Getting the extra weight removed helps prevent sagging rafters and decking.
- Reselling the home is tougher to do with an overlay.
- More and more insurance companies will not insure composition shingles overlaying wood shingles.
- And it will look and lay much better over a smooth deck.

Decking Installation
- Two of the most common types of sheathing are used.
- 7/16" APA OSB is one method.
- ½" APA CD plywood is another.
- Each has their advantages.
- Spacing the sheathing is important due to the expansion of these products.
- No spacing between each sheet can lead to buckled decking.

Felt
- Under-layment is asphalt-impregnated paper that is used as a moisture barrier between the roof deck and shingle.
- The felt comes in two different weights. 15 and 30 lb.
- Either is an acceptable method of providing a dry moisture free deck.
